Attendance Support Officer

 Job Description:

We are working closely alongside a local authority in Wrexham to assist with the appointment of an Attendance Support Officer on a 2.5-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £14.32 - £18.72 per hour

Summary:

The Attendance Support Officer (ASO) plays a vital role in ensuring Wrexham County Borough Council meets its statutory duty to ensure all school-aged children receive an education. The primary purpose of this role is to improve the attendance, attainment, and engagement of pupils across various educational settings. By working directly with young people and their families, you will identify and remove barriers to learning, provide expert advice to schools on attendance management, and implement early interventions to prevent pupils from becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training).

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct frequent home visits (approx. 50% of the time) to investigate reasons for absence, settle pupils back into school, and explain the legal implications of non-attendance to parents/carers.
  • Act as a mentor and coach to pupils, addressing anxieties or school-based concerns that affect attendance. Manage "Attendance Improvement Plans" (AIPs) and track their impact.
  • Perform detailed audits within schools to analyse their internal processes and procedures for managing non-attendance, ensuring alignment with the All Wales Attendance Framework.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate case records and correspondence in accordance with agency requirements and data protection policies.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 GCSEs (Grade C or above) or equivalent.
  • Level 4 Qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Youth & Community Work, Health & Social Diploma) OR significant equivalent specialist experience in school management systems and data profiling.

Essentials:

  • Significant experience working within education or school services.
  • Proven track record of working directly with "hard to reach" families and vulnerable young people.
  • Knowledge of the Education Act 1996, Children Act 1989/2004, and the Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014.
