Housing Needs & Homelessness Manager
Job Description:
We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Isle of Wight to assist with the appointment of a Housing Needs & Homelessness Manager, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £19.18 - £25.12 per hour
Summary:
An experienced Housing Needs & Homelessness Manager is required to lead and manage the Council's Housing Needs and Homelessness service. You will be responsible for ensuring the Council meets its statutory duties under homelessness and housing legislation, while delivering timely, lawful, customer-focused and financially sustainable services.
You will lead a public-facing team, drive homelessness prevention and early intervention, and ensure services are accessible and responsive to vulnerable households, with a strong focus on safeguarding, equality and trauma-informed practice.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage and develop the Housing Needs & Homelessness team, ensuring high performance and continuous improvement.
- Ensure homelessness assessments, decisions and placements are lawful, timely and of a high standard.
- Oversee homelessness prevention initiatives and promote early intervention.
- Ensure temporary accommodation is suitable, safe and appropriately managed, including safeguarding considerations.
- Support responses to legal challenges, complaints and Ombudsman enquiries.
Essentials:
- Substantial experience within Housing Needs, Homelessness or a closely related housing service.
- Experience of leading and managing a public-facing team.
- Extensive knowledge of homelessness legislation, housing law, case law, statutory guidance and best practice.
- Good understanding of security of tenure, homelessness, landlord and tenant matters and social housing.
- Relevant professional or vocational experience/qualification equivalent to the requirements of the role.
- Full current UK driving licence and access to a car, with the ability to travel to external appointments and training.
- Willingness to participate in the Out of Hours Standby Duty Rota.
