Business Support Officer

 Job Description:

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Lewisham to assist with the appointment of a Business Support Officer, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £17.23 - £21.94 per hour

Summary:

The Business Support Officer will provide customer-focused, efficient, and effective front-line and administrative support to Lewishams Childrens Social Care teams. The primary function will be to deliver high-quality reception/front-of-house services, with secondary responsibilities in general business support and administration. The role ensures smooth office operations, accurate record-keeping, and responsive customer service to residents, staff, and partners.

This is a site-based role requiring flexibility to work across multiple sites in the borough. Candidates must be pre-cleared and available for immediate start.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the first point of contact for visitors and service users, handling enquiries professionally and sensitively.
  • Manage reception areas, ensuring a welcoming and safe environment.
  • Signpost customers to appropriate services or escalate queries to relevant officers.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute incoming/outgoing post (paper and electronic).
  • Maintain electronic and paper filing systems (e.g. LCS, EHM, ContrOCC).
  • Receive, log, and process applications/referrals, ensuring accurate data entry.

Qualifications:

  • Good standard of general education (GCSEs or equivalent).
  • ICT proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, databases).

Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience delivering high-quality administrative support.
  • Previous reception or front-of-house experience in a busy, customer-facing environment.
  • Experience working with confidential/sensitive information.
  • Experience supporting multi-agency working (desirable).
  • Experience within Childrens Services, local authority, or public sector environment (desirable).
