Street Trading and Market Operations Officer

We are working closely alongside with local authority in Tower Hamlets to assist with the appointment of a Street Trading and Market Operations Officer on a 6-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £21.44- £28.29 per hour

Summary:

The Street Trading & Markets Operations Officer is responsible for the management, control, and monitoring of all street trading and market-related activities. A core function is the enforcement of the Council's regulations, applicable legislation (such as the London Local Authorities Act 1990) , and bye-laws in respect of trading. The role involves enforcement action, licensing administration, conflict resolution, and liaising with the public, traders, and external agencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the enforcement of the Council's regulations, legislation, and bye-laws
  • Monitor Street Cleansing activities and liaise with contractors to ensure safe, clean, and tidy market conditions
  • Issue daily licences to casual traders strictly in accordance with current policies and procedures.
  • Report defects in the structure and fabric of the market that may cause a health & safety concern and progress remedial action
  • To deputise for the Street Trading & Markets Operations Supervisor, as and when required
  • Ensure that traders' vehicles do not obstruct the public highway, except when loading/unloading at permitted times
  • Carry out licensing site visits/surveys to verify applicant information for public footway and isolated pitch licences

Essentials:

  • Experience of dealing with traders and/or the public
  • Able to establish positive working relationships, and work closely with elected Members, chief officers, external agencies, community groups, and individuals
  • Commitment to the principles and practice of equality and diversity in employment and service delivery
  • Actively pursuing Continuing Professional Development as defined by the professional body
