Lead Tenancy Officer
Job Description:
We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Rugby to assist with the appointment of a Lead Tenancy Officer, on a 3-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £16.59 - £21.14 per hour
Summary:
The Lead Tenancy Officer (Independent Living) will take a lead role in tenancy enforcement and tenancy sustainment within Rugby Borough Councils Independent Living schemes. The postholder will represent the Council in legal proceedings, supervise Housing Officers (Independent Living), and provide expert guidance on tenancy management issues. The role includes undertaking final tenancy reviews, managing high-risk anti-social behaviour (ASB) cases, and ensuring compliance with housing legislation and policies. Working closely with colleagues, partner agencies, and tenants, the Lead Tenancy Officer will deliver a customer-focused housing management service aimed at sustaining tenancies and creating safe, inclusive communities.
Responsibilities:
- Represent the Council in legal proceedings relating to tenancy enforcement, including court hearings.
- Conduct final reviews of tenancies at risk of eviction, identifying appropriate next steps to support tenancy sustainment.
- Supervise and support Housing Officers (Independent Living) in delivering housing management functions.
- Provide advice, guidance, and information to tenants and the public through office appointments, home visits, calls, and correspondence.
- Liaise with internal departments, external agencies, and partner organisations to ensure joined-up support for tenants.
Qualifications:
- Relevant professional qualification (e.g., Chartered Institute of Housing or equivalent) or working towards it (essential).
Experiences:
- Substantial experience in housing management, tenancy sustainment, and enforcement.
- Experience of supervising staff within a housing or similar environment.
- Proven experience representing a landlord or council in court proceedings.
- Experience of working with partner agencies to resolve tenancy and community issues.
- Experience dealing with ASB cases and complex housing management issues.
- Demonstrable track record of working in a customer-focused environment.
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of housing legislation, tenancy law, and enforcement processes.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to prepare clear reports.
- Ability to manage sensitive and high-pressure situations with tact and professionalism.
- Proficiency in using IT systems, housing management databases, and Microsoft Office packages.
- Full, current UK driving licence (essential).
