Gardener

 Job Description:

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Southwark to assist with the appointment of a Gardener, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £15.03 - £19.66 per hour

Summary:

Southwark Council is seeking a dedicated and experienced Gardener to perform a full range of horticultural and grounds maintenance tasks across housing estates, highways, and other public areas within the borough. This hands-on role involves operating various horticultural machinery and contributing to the aesthetic and environmental upkeep of green spaces.

A full UK driving licence is essential, and experience with towing trailers is preferred, as you will be expected to transport machinery and equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform a wide range of horticultural duties including grass cutting, shrub pruning, planting, and general grounds maintenance.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain a variety of horticultural tools, equipment, and machinery safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with health and safety regulations, and in compliance with Council policies and procedures.
  • Secure and maintain the Council's property and equipment, reporting any defects or issues to the supervisor.
  • Follow the instructions of the Area Manager and Supervisor and complete associated administrative tasks where necessary.

Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in grounds maintenance, cleaning, or waste management.

Requirements:
  • Basic understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act and relevant working practices.
  • Knowledge of the Councils Equality and Diversity policies.
  • Proven experience working in a grounds maintenance, horticultural, cleaning, or waste management environment.
  • Practical experience using horticultural machinery (e.g., mowers, hedge trimmers) and equipment.
