Personal Advisor - Leaving Care

 Job Description:

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Liverpool to assist with the appointment of a Personal Advisor , on a 5 month contract, highly likely to be extended at client’s discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Summary:

As a personal advisor for leaving care, you will be working with a group of amazing young people who come from diverse backgrounds and who have a range of life experiences.

You will need to have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to motivate young people and to inspire them to make the most of their potential. You will creatively source appropriate support with regards to suitable accommodation, education and employment opportunities as well as provide them with the emotional, social and practice skills to promote independent living.

You will work closely with our permanence service to provide tailored support, accurate guidance and advice on transition planning for young people leaving care. You will be confident, proactive and able to work in partnership with all multi-agencies to ensure you achieve the best outcomes.

You will have the drive and motivation to deliver excellent services and improve outcomes to ensure a positive difference and brighter future for our children and young people.

You will hold at least a Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People or equivalent and have strong direct experience working with vulnerable children and young people within or leaving the care system. You will have sound understanding of legislation, as well as financial and benefit entitlements for care leavers.

Responsibilities:

To contribute to the Leaving Care Service in order to best meet the individual and collective needs of young people using the service.

To provide a personal advisor function, in line with the Children Leaving Act and associated regulations and guidance, to young people who qualify for such assistance.

To ensure that all eligible, relevant and formerly relevant children have comprehensive pathway plans, and these are regularly reviewed.

To ensure that care leavers are living in suitable accommodation, are supported into education and employment and are actively encouraged to stay in touch with the service.

To participate in and promote service delivery which is responsive to the needs of the young people.

To provide an efficient and effective, best value service that is consistent with the City Council/Portfolios policies, procedures, best practise and reflects decisions in childcare and pathway plans.

To work pro-actively with young people to equip them emotionally, socially and with the practical skills required for more independent living.

To maintain effective communication and actively contribute to team case discussions, staff development sessions, childcare reviews and other meetings as required.
