Income Collection Officer

 Job Description:

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Hackney to assist with the appointment of an Income Collection Officer, on a 12-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £21.15 - £27.17 per Hour

Summary:

Income Collection Officer will support the effective collection of income from temporary accommodation tenants, ensuring that residents are supported to manage their rent and charges while helping the council maximise income to reinvest in its vital services.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of temporary accommodation accounts to ensure timely rent and service charge collection.
  • Assist tenants with Housing Benefit applications and income-related support.
  • Conduct appointments and home visits at key stages of arrears escalation, including pre-notice and pre-legal stages.
  • Handle front-facing income queries at the Hackney Service Centre.
  • Identify and refer vulnerable clients to relevant support services.
  • Prepare and serve notice-seeking possession documentation where necessary.
  • Liaise with Legal Services to progress possession cases and attend hearings and evictions.

Essentials:

  • Experience managing rent accounts and income collection in a housing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of welfare benefits, especially Housing Benefit and Universal Credit.
  • Understanding of housing legislation related to rent collection and tenancy management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and customer service skills.
