We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Westminster to assist with the appointment of a Environmental Health Officer Food/Health & Safety, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £30.00 - £39.58 per hour

Summary:

Westminster City Council is seeking a Food/Health & Safety qualified Environmental Health Officer (EHO) to conduct a range of regulatory functions, including new premises inspections, Category AD food hygiene inspections, complaint investigations (food/H&S), and RIDDOR cases. The role is essential to ensuring public protection and compliance across Westminsters vibrant and diverse community. While experienced EHOs are preferred, we are open to candidates with limited but relevant experience who meet legal competency criteria.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out routine and unannounced food hygiene and standards inspections of new and existing premises (Categories AD).
  • Investigate food and health & safety complaints, including those requiring formal enforcement action.
  • Lead and support investigations of RIDDOR-reportable incidents.
  • Serve legal notices where appropriate, such as Hygiene Improvement Notices (HINs), Health and Safety Improvement Notices (INs), Prohibition Notices (PNs), and Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notices (HEPNs).
  • Support prosecutions and enforcement actions by preparing legal documentation and evidence, and attending court when required.

Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health (or equivalent).
  • Registered with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB) or the CIEH register.
  • Must meet the Food Standards Agencys Competency Framework as detailed in the Food Law Code of Practice.

Experience:

  • Experience of working in a relevant environmental health discipline would be desirable.
  • Experience of responding to complaints from the public, stakeholders and public elected members, both in writing and in person with respect to environmental health disciplines.
  • Experience of delivering a customer facing role, with ability to build trusted relationships quickly and deescalate conflict, providing education and advice and using regulatory powers to effect change
  • Experience of working with a range of agencies and professionals, building effective relationships to deliver excellent customer service and improve public health.
  • Experience of case management, including gathering information and evidence to support legal action, and understanding of rules of evidence and court proceedings.
