Senior Social Worker

 Job Description:

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Powys to assist with the appointment of a Senior Social Worker, on a 3-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £31.23 - £39.45 per hour

Summary:

Senior Social Workers are one group of staff within the social care sector. It is principally through Social Workers that Local Authorities meet their statutory obligations under the Social Services and Well-being Act (Wales) 2014 and others.

The overall purpose of the Senior Social Work role within Childrens Services is to assess, risk assess and provide a service to children and their families, where possible maintaining children in their families. In situations where risk cannot be managed, to develop plans which keep children safe and able to achieve their full potential. In doing this, the Social Worker must adhere to the relevant legislation and regulation, as well as Powys County Council Policies and Procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • To provide a social work service to individual children and young people with a view to keeping them safe and enabling them to achieve to their fullest potential within a setting that provides legal permanence.
  • To work as part of a team, undertaking tasks on a duty rotational basis, and providing cover for absent colleagues.
  • Promote signs of safety as the model of social work
  • To have case responsibility for children and young people in complex circumstances.
  • To provide guidance, mentoring and support to less experienced staff in their work

Qualifications:

  • Appropriate social work qualification (i.e. Degree in Social Work, DipSW or equivalent).
  • Registration as Social Worker with Social Care Wales.
  • Commitment to undertaking any relevant qualification relevant to this post.

Experience

  • Extensive post qualifying experience within Childrens Services.
  • Experience of undertaking assessments of needs and identifying risks.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge in the field of Child Protection, LAC, Court Experience of chairing complex meetings
  • Ability to collate management information
  • Experience of mentoring and supporting less experienced staff
