Pest Control Officer
Job Description:
We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Westminster to assist with the appointment of a Pest Control Officer, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £21.83 - £28.80 per hour
Summary:
The Pest Control Officer will support Westminster City Council in fulfilling its statutory obligations under the Public Health Act 1936 and the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949, ensuring the borough is kept free from rats, mice, and other vermin. The role requires a proactive, customer-focused professional with operational pest control expertise, responsible for inspections, treatments, enforcement, and associated record keeping.
A valid driving licence is essential, as the role involves extensive travel across the borough.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver a high-quality, customer-focused pest control service in accordance with legislation, council policies, codes of practice, and service level agreements.
- Conduct surveys and inspections of premises and sites arising from complaints, service requests, or programmed inspections.
- Carry out pest control treatments using approved methods, ensuring safe and efficient eradication of pests.
- Advise residents, businesses, and council colleagues on effective pest prevention measures and treatments.
- Prepare clear, concise reports on investigations, inspections, treatments, and enforcement actions.
Qualification:
- Relevant qualification or certification in pest control or environmental health (BPCA / RSPH Level 2 Award in Pest Management or equivalent).
Requirements:
- Evidence of ongoing professional development in pest management and public health practices.
- Valid UK driving licence (essential).
- Proven operational experience in pest control, ideally within a local authority or public sector environment.
- Experience in planning, delivering, and coordinating pest control programmes and related projects.
- Demonstrable ability to use technology and information systems effectively to manage workloads and maintain accurate records.
- Experience in preparing reports and carrying out enforcement duties under relevant legislation.
