Technical Support Officer

We are working closely with a local authority in Plymouth to assist with the appointment of a Technical Support Officer, on a 3-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £13.26- £17.14 per hour

Summary:

Plymouth City Council is seeking a professional and customer-focused Technical Support Officer to provide comprehensive administrative and operational support to the Bereavement Service. The postholder will be responsible for processing customer information, maintaining accurate records, supporting financial transactions, coordinating service requests, and delivering high-quality customer service to members of the public and partner organisations. The role requires excellent administrative, communication, and organisational skills, together with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and empathy.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to the Bereavement Service, including filing, scanning, indexing, data entry, document management, and correspondence.
  • Prepare letters, notices, witness statements, reports, and other documentation using standard templates and procedures.
  • Act as a first point of contact for customers, providing advice, guidance, and information in person, by telephone, and through written correspondence.
  • Maintain financial information and records in accordance with council procedures and financial regulations.
  • Provide administrative support relating to legal proceedings, statutory notices, and regulatory requirements where appropriate.
  • Contribute to service improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications:

  • GCSE Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Business Administration or equivalent administrative experience.

Essentials:

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and database systems.
  • Experience working in an administrative or business support environment.
  • Experience handling financial transactions and maintaining accurate records.
  • Understanding of customer service principles and administrative procedures.
  • Knowledge of Data Protection, confidentiality, Freedom of Information, and Equality legislation.
  • Awareness of financial administration and payment processing procedures.
