Family Support Worker
Job Description:
We are working closely with a local authority in Plymouth to assist with the appointment of a Family Support Worker, on a 3-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £15.06- £19.68 per hour
Summary:
The Family Support Worker plays a vital role in supporting children, young people, and families by delivering high-quality supervised family contact and practical family support interventions. Working alongside Social Workers and multi-agency professionals, the postholder ensures that family contact arrangements are safe, child-focused, and aligned with care plans, court directions, safeguarding requirements, and the child's best interests.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, organise and coordinate supervised family contact sessions in accordance with children's care plans, court orders, safeguarding requirements and risk assessments.
- Observe interactions objectively, ensuring the child's welfare remains the primary consideration throughout each session.
- Prepare children emotionally before contact sessions by explaining arrangements in an age-appropriate manner.
- Ensure children's wishes, feelings and lived experiences are listened to, respected and reflected in planning and review processes.
- Record observations relating to the quality of interactions, child presentation, parental engagement and safeguarding concerns.
- Contribute to safeguarding assessments, child protection planning and risk management processes.
Qualifications:
- Level 3 qualification in Children and Young People's Workforce, Health and Social Care, Early Years,
- Equivalent knowledge and experience gained through working with children and families.
Essentials:
- Experience working with children, young people and families within Children's Services, education, health, family support or community settings.
- Experience supporting vulnerable children and families with a child-centred approach.
- Experience supervising or facilitating family contact, parenting support or family intervention activities.
- Knowledge of safeguarding legislation, child protection procedures and statutory guidance relating to children and families.
- Understanding of child development, attachment theory and trauma-informed practice.
- Knowledge of supervised family contact processes and safeguarding risk management.

- This role requires an Enhanced DBS
