 Job Description:

We are working closely with local authority in Swindon to assist with the appointment of a Committee Officer, on a 2-months contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £171.73- £221.02 per day

Summary:

The Committee Officer – Legal is responsible for providing high-quality democratic and committee support services to Council decision-making bodies, ensuring meetings are effectively organised, legally compliant, transparent, and administratively efficient. The role supports Council, Cabinet, Overview and Scrutiny Committees, Regulatory Committees, Education Appeal Panels, Licensing Panels, and other Council bodies, including those operating at arm's length.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, publish, and distribute meeting agendas, minutes, action logs, decision notices, and supporting documentation within required timescales.
  • Monitor action points and follow up on committee decisions to ensure implementation and accountability.
  • Ensure compliance with local government governance frameworks, decision-making protocols, and statutory requirements.
  • Coordinate hearing documentation, panel arrangements, notices, decisions, and records in line with legislative and procedural requirements.
  • Provide responsive administrative and governance support to facilitate effective democratic decision-making and transparency.

Qualifications:

  • Educated to A-Level standard or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Relevant qualification in administration, governance, legal services, business administration, public administration, or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Essentials:

  • Experience supporting committees, meetings, panels, or governance processes within a local authority, legal, public sector, or similar environment.
  • Experience preparing agendas, minutes, reports, decision notices, and meeting documentation with high levels of accuracy.
  • Experience providing procedural or administrative support within regulated, governance, or policy-driven environments.
  • Experience maintaining records, tracking actions, and ensuring compliance with governance or procedural requirements.
