We're looking for an experienced and ambitious Assistant Financial Controller to join our Finance team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified or part-qualified finance professional who enjoys combining technical excellence with practical problem-solving. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you'll play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and compliance of the Group's financial reporting, while supporting the wider Finance function and helping drive continuous improvement.

You'll act as a trusted deputy to the Financial Controller, getting involved in everything from statutory reporting and audit management to financial controls, payroll oversight and regulatory compliance.

The role

What you'll be doing:

  • Support the delivery of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reporting.
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any variances or discrepancies.
  • Assist with statutory accounts preparation and manage relationships with external auditors.
  • Support tax and regulatory reporting, including VAT and other statutory submissions.
  • Help maintain strong financial controls and identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiency.
  • Oversee key financial accounting activities including journals, accruals and month-end reporting.
  • Partner with People & Culture and our payroll provider to ensure payroll is accurate, compliant and appropriately controlled.
  • Support treasury activities, cash management and banking processes.
  • Assist with FCA compliance, risk management and governance requirements.
  • Contribute to Board and Audit & Risk Committee reporting.
  • Deputise for the Financial Controller when required and provide guidance to colleagues across the Finance team.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience within a Financial Accounting, Financial Control or Assistant Financial Controller role.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of financial controls.
  • Experience supporting audits and statutory reporting.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Confidence working with colleagues across different teams and levels of the organisation.
  • A proactive approach, with the ability to identify issues and drive solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Qualified accountants (ACA, ACCA or CIMA), or
  • Individuals working towards a professional accounting qualification who can demonstrate relevant experience.
