PROCESS ENGINEER
Purpose of the position:
The Process Engineer's fundamental drive is the continual improvement of efficiency, performance, competitive advantage and utilisation of plant equipment, labour, knowledge, planning, inventory, production processes and tasks, by drawing on knowledge resources within the business, the use of lean manufacturing principles and OMS to continually improve the value stream and its components.
Main Responsibilities:
- Oversight of the converting processes and working to maintain optimisation of the continuous manufacturing process
- To develop, implement and drive the Continuous Improvement Program, primarily focused around: 4M's - machines, materials, methods, and manpower.
- Analysis & reporting on the consumption of materials and utilities.
- Develop and lead VIP cost improvements.
- Develop and set standards for consistent operations across all shifts and ensure that, through coaching and influencing, the performance of the shift production team is being managed to achieve this.
- Development and implementation of action plans together with the production teams to address any deviation from standard as identified through OMS.
- Co-ordinate the quality improvement program together with shift production teams, SHERQ and other technical resources (internal and external).
- Plan, co-ordinate and execute machine tests and trials together with shift production teams and other technical resources (both internal and external).
- Completion of documentation to show and ensure compliance with both internal and external regulations and protocols
- Monitoring of equipment — including regular testing and ensuring maintenance tasks are carried out
- Perform risk assessments of the equipment and processes being used. This refers to staff safety and safety within the plant, and can also extend outwards to include things such as the environmental impact.
- Analyse and interpret process data to advise the Site Engineer and the Operations Manager on potential operational and quality risks as well as opportunities for improvement.
- Provide process know—how during the development of projects, machine rebuilds, new product development.
- Planning and installation of new equipment
Educational and Experience:
- B. Tech or National Diploma in Pulp and Paper Technology, B. Tech / BSc or National Diploma in Industrial Engineering.
- Minimum of 3 years Process Engineering experience
- Skilled in using the MS Office package Advance Excel skills
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, 6-Sigma or similar methodologies.
- In-depth knowledge, understanding and experience of FMCG or Converting plant, and able to translate this into practical applications to improve business unit performance.
- Responsible for analysis and interpretation of data into charts, diagrams, and reports.
- Sound understanding of SHERQ legislation and standards
- Ability to develop and implement processes and procedures which simplify and enhance the operation.
- Proficient problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Sound decision-making high level of computer literacy and systems understanding.
- Project management, ability to manage people, budgets and complex projects and bring them to completion on time and on budget
