About the job Buyer

Minimum requirements:

  • Matric. / Grade 12 certificate
  • National Diploma in Purchasing or equivalent
  • Computer literate (MS Office), Advance Excel
  • ERP System
  • 3-5 years related experience in an Engineering manufacturing environment
  • Project Management experience
  • Technical knowledge/experience will be advantageous

Understanding of the following:

  • MS Office 
  • Baan
  • ERP equivalent 
  • MRP logic
  • The Bill of Materials (BOM) and the impact on order creation.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, technical procedures, or company regulations. 
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for purchasing and procuring of OE, service parts and consumables at the right price on time at the right cost
  • Manage production orders on the system.
  • Place orders.
  • Confirm orders.
  • Change dates.
  • Update order details (quantities, suppliers, prices, etc.).
  • Receipt orders.
  • Troubleshoot orders (cancel, partial receipt, fix incorrect pricing, etc.).
  • Manage orders logically.
  • Calculate expected requirements (based on current stock levels, the critical list, and the production schedule).
  • Predict batch size requirements (based on what is needed by production).
  • Gauge and manage pricing (or PPVs) based on knowledge of material, part size, machining requirement, etc.
  • Responsible to explain the data presented (overdue purchase orders, buffer levels, critical list, velocity, cage account, etc.).
  • Communicate changing requirements with supplier.
  • Empower suppliers to manage themselves (supply them with supporting information) (communicate and manage around draw off rate).
  • Work with planners to coordinate production based on lower level availability.
  • Create and manage matrices to measure own performance 
  • Understand and manage according to planner codes and planning types.
  • Manage subcontracting
  • Negotiate subcontracting prices based on knowledge of material, part size, machining requirement, etc.
  • Manage the quotation process.
  • Manage lead times.
  • Understand and manage the link between production orders and purchase orders.
  • Understand the difference in time requirements between complete machine, balancing, and reworks.
  • Manage rework orders in terms of part receipts and physical part location.
  • Adherence of all HSE and housekeeping requirements
  • Adhere to Duty of Care Policy at all times
