About the job Engineering Compliance Specialist
Minimum requirements:
- A minimum of a BSc Mech or Elec Engineering or equivalent (for the rest of Africa)
- A minimum of Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) factories (a minimum of a BSc Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent) for South Africa
- A minimum 5 to 8 years experience in a utilities environment, preferably in FMCG.
- Extensive knowledge of electrical reticulation, steam generation, water treatment, refrigeration, Hi and Low-pressure compressor systems
- Experience in managing a team of technical specialists and collaboration with senior leadership at plant level
- Knowledge of the FMCG manufacturing environment
Responsibilities:
- Develop an annual plan focusing on Key Performance Indicators, engineering compliance, repository of standards, auditing, and implementation of actions for gap closure.
- Research and extract national and global best practice engineering and utilities standards from available information and data, synthesize information and create a benchmarking document detailing the standards
- Upload information into a repository, ensuring easily accessible retrieval.
- Prepare and workshop standards document with Plant Engineering teams; assist in the roll-out of the system and standards across each site through a range of forums.
- Monitor and oversee compliance with country-specific legislation, as well as The Company's governance policies, procedures and protocols associated with engineering aspects of manufacturing.
- Support implementation of new technology and optimisation processes and make recommendations in support of sustainable development specific to water and energy usage.
- Put together programs and run communities to build capacity and capability of the Engineering Community.
- Support implementation of engineering technologies available; set up visits as applicable to view utilisation of different and new technology; participate as integral team member to consider possible applications and adaptations of new technology for the Company.
- Management and Support of Utilities
- Monitor and measure operational efficiencies monthly in terms of current performance against key KPIs; analyse and interpret data obtained to quantify performance targets being achieved, maintained, and improved.
- Provide feedback on data to Plant Engineering and Operations Sustainability as applicable; challenge results on deviations from standards; ascertain detail of action plan to course correct
- Monitor execution of action plan.
- Advise and assist regions with utilisation and/or access to equipment to fill identified gaps related to utilities, while ensuring production levels are maintained and compliance with standards occur (i.e., Identify gaps and develop solutions).
- Maintain, and update documentation specifying all aspects of local/regional legislation associated with engineering and utilities processes, upload documents for easy retrieval.
- Keep current with changes to local/regional legislation and governance protocols and regulations; update documents immediately as changes occur.
- Continually monitor Plant Engineering compliance with legislation and governance protocols; advise on deviations; escalate matters as required (i.e., ensuring appropriate escalations).
- Conduct compliance audits at each plant against engineering and utility standards; carry out annual Supply Chain Maturity Assessment (SCMAT) audit on Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) components
- Identify gaps and areas of improvement; make recommendations to assist Plants develop corrective action plans; monitor implementation of action plans for correction of deviations and gap closure.
- Perform a comprehensive review of standards twice annually to ensure best practice levels are maintained and improved, as systems and technologies change.
- Conduct refresher training annually with Plant Engineering on standards and compliance requirements; raise non-compliance trends and assist in developing action plans for resolution.
- Provide a specialist advisory service to Plant Engineering to achieve engineering and governance targets
- Assist in sourcing new technologies and in implementation and utilisation to improve KPIs
- Assist with project management and advice on installation.
- Set up, lead, and ensure minuted meetings of stakeholder regional forums; among other aspects, share applicable information and identify problem trends in compliance.
- Jointly monitor action plans, close identified gaps, provide input on age and obsolescence of equipment, provide joint input on elements of capital projects.
- Continually monitor energy and water usage in the region against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess usage against standards and targets; assist with the planning and execution of correcting deviations and resolution of issues.
- Assist Operations Sustainability in identifying water and energy usage optimisation and improvement programs.
- Conduct annual water and energy improvement and benchmarking audits as part of the team Submit data for collation by Operations Sustainability.
- Provide input into capital projects related to utilities and technical equipment through advising project teams on the alignment of new technology with required standards.
- Assist in value engineering of design proposals for utilities in the initiation and planning phases of capital projects as an integral team member.
- Review whole processes when conducting a sense check of capital project proposals for the purchase of utilities equipment
- Advise on alternative and develop viable option
