About the job Disaster Recovery Specialist
Key purpose:
The Disaster Recovery Specialist a qualified resource with a proven track record in IT DR and Business Continuity is required to render IT DR and BCP Specialists Services to review the current DR strategy, plans and processes.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Review ICS DR Framework and related documents inclusive of the Business Continuity Plan, DR Plan, Backup Plan and DR Test Framework
- Review current Technical Recovery Procedure documents, develop a standard template and make key recommendations for all ICS critical systems
- Ensure that viable, actionable Disaster Recovery Plan(s) to carry out business operations under adverse and emergency conditions
- Build a DR document control system and update existing documents in line with the BIA
- Ensure system documentation is aligned with the document control standards of the organization, alternatively, ISO 22301 recommends that document control standards be implemented for accuracy, completeness, and traceability of information.
- Perform a gap analysis on existing Disaster Recovery capabilities and compare to the DR strategy to formulate viable plans to mitigate the gaps
- Plan and coordinate the annual DR test
- Inspect the Disaster Recovery site and generate inspection reports, as well as reports on all aspects of the critical facilities operations, maintenance, and environmental controls
- Revise the Data Backup Plan in line with recommended standards
- Ensure that the Backup Plans and related BCP documents support the requirements of the recently updated Business Impact Analysis (BIA)
- Identify all the relevant BCM and DR stakeholders and deliver the required level of training Disaster Recovery teams, Business Continuity Teams, and Crisis Management Teams
- Maintain Evidence of training attendance for future BCM reviews
- Review DR-related incident processes and make recommendations for the end-to-end DR process and incident management
- Perform a review across critical applications to determine potential single points of failure, including dependencies such as buildings, equipment, and resources
- Formally document and approve the backup procedures, replication procedures, and recovery for critical IT Systems, aligned to the requirements stipulated in the BIA
Qualifications and experience
- 7-10 years experience in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity
- B Degree in Computer Science or related (NQF Level 7)
- CISA/CISM certification
- IT Disaster Recovery/ Business Continuity Certification
