Role and Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership to the Non-Life Pricing & Structuring (Cell Captive) team, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.
  • Take accountability for all product development, pricing frameworks, and structuring initiatives across the CRS and VUMA portfolios.
  • Review, approve, and sign off on pricing models for new and existing products, ensuring compliance with regulatory, professional, and internal governance standards.
  • Lead rate reviews and re-pricing exercises for the existing product suite to maintain technical soundness and market competitiveness.
  • Oversee the assessment and approval of new product offerings, ensuring they are commercially viable and compliant.
  • Partner with internal teams to structure new deals providing actuarial input on optimal underwriting and capital structuring solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Support clients in the design and development of bespoke products, with a focus on innovation, profitability, and sustainability.
  • Manage financial performance reporting, including monitoring product profitability and adherence to best-practice actuarial standards.
  • Act as a senior technical advisor to both clients and internal stakeholders, translating complex actuarial insights into actionable business decisions.
Qualifications and Skills
Educational Background
  • Qualified or nearly qualified actuary (FASSA or equivalent international designation).
  • Successful completion of F103 (General Insurance Principles) or equivalent short-term insurance exam.
  • Bachelors or Honours degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field (NQF Level 7+).
Technical Expertise
  • Minimum of 5-8 years experience in the non-life (short-term) insurance industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of actuarial pricing techniques and product structuring principles.
  • Exposure to the SAM capital regime.
Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills
  • Exceptional analytical thinking and lateral problem-solving capabilities.
  • Comfortable working with diverse actuarial models and approaches.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines.

  • Proven leadership experience with the ability to lead and mentor a high-performing technical team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted internal and external relationships.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative, adapt to change, and operate with minimal supervision.
