About the job CCTV Operator

Minimum requirements:

  • Grade 12
  • Computer literacy (MS Word, email as minimum but PowerPoint and Excel are desirable)
  • Working up to 12 shifts in secure control room environment
  • No problem working with multiple display screens
  • Understanding of CCTV systems at a level sufficient for operation and basic fault diagnosis
  • Understanding of legal terms and concepts related to video evidence and security work
  • Ability to write basic reports
  • Ability to give coherent verbal evidence when required
  • Able to apply Health and Safety procedures in own work area with general guidance/supervision in place
  • Able to take corrective action when required with general guidance in place
  • Able to identify hazards and handle them with direct instructions/guidance in place
  • Can make basic inferences from customer usage patterns
  • Must be familiar with the operation of CCTV systems
  • Have an understanding of the law related to use of video evidence and have skills to apply that understanding to the management of tapes
  • Have some knowledge of security work and
  • police procedures for liaison with security operations

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and patrol via view screens effectively and take any remedial or immediate action
  • Communicate between other departments, external agencies or the public in a professional and courteous manner at all times
  • Record all events and actions taken in a clear, legible and accurate written format and record these onto any other media as required
  • Produce and maintain continuity of all detailed records or evidential material required in a clear, legible and accurate format
  • Maintain personal integrity and confidentiality of all information obtained within the control room at all times, whether written, verbal or by any other means
  • Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly, carry out equipment checks as required and inform immediately all required personnel of all faults found
  • Ensure the security of the control room and all equipment is maintained satisfactorily at all times,
  • which includes access control of all visitors to the control room
  • Maintain professional conduct
  • Assist in relevant operations/operational functions as required
  • Ensure dress code is in accordance with company Standard Operating Procedures
  • Maintain housekeeping standards on a daily basis
  • Ensure standards of Health and Safety are maintained
