Key purpose:

The Network Engineer is responsible for providing expertise in the implementation, monitoring and support of group-wide IT networks, operating systems (Windows & Office 365), active directory and servers.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Responsible for support, monitoring and security of the group's Wide and Local Area Networks.
  • Investigate and diagnose network problems, and continuously monitor networks to ensure best possible availability and performance.
  • Responsible for support, monitoring and maintenance of the company's firewalls.
  • Responsible for user support, monitoring and maintenance of the company's VPNs.
  • Ensure ongoing real-time monitoring of networks and related switches.
  • Responsible for the monitoring application (currently Zabbix).
  • Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) and WiFi:
  • Configured according to Best Practices.
  • Parts / spares available.
  • Relevant configurations / support / security schedules implemented.
  • User support provided in a timely manner.
  • Network issues identified, reported, and rectified in a timely manner.
  • Administer and maintain the Windows Active Directory infrastructure, including domain controllers, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy Objects (GPOs)
  • Ensure accurate user information and classification
  • Create AD profiles for all employees; update and maintain these profiles.
  • Unused accounts are removed timeously.
  • AD groups contain only authorised accounts.
  • DNS and DHCP services are functioning correctly.
  • Group Policies are deployed correctly to all computers.
  • Install, configure, monitor and troubleshoot cloud, hosted (currently iSphere) and onsite servers and applications (inclusive of Linux) and related service providers.
  • Responsible for support, monitoring and maintenance of the company's virtual environment (currently VMWare).
  • Administration and support of the Windows Operating System.
  • Ensure virtualization software and Operating Systems are patched and up to date.
  • Ensure that all servers and applications are always available to the business.
  • Ensure server and application performance meets the requirements of business
  • Administration and support of the Microsoft 365 platform, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive for Business.
  • M365 is configured and secured according to best practices.
  • M365 synchronisation with Active Directory is functioning correctly and syncing according to schedule.
  • Incidents are resolved timeously.
  • Logs are monitored and irregularities are investigated and resolved.
  • User support on the M365 applications provided in a timely manner
  • Operates within controls and procedures in order to ensure the integrity of the Company.
  • Identifies and reports risks or areas of concern to management within own department and area of responsibility.
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and procedures to prevent fruitless, wasteful and irregular expenditure.
  • Assists with 5S and ensures housekeeping standards are applied and upheld.
  • Implements corrective action and applies root cause analysis rules wherever necessary.
  • Ad hoc responsibilities include the required planning, support and actions relevant to moving / establishing of a group site.
  • Compliance with applicable regulations and procedures.
  • Risks reported to Manager.
  • Availability of documentation and records.
  • Cost and expenditure monitored waste minimized.
  • Housekeeping standards and compliance assured / upheld.
  • RCA executed and principles applied to ensure compliance.
  • Promotes the effective and transparent use of financial and other resources.
  • Explores opportunities to control and reduce costs.
  • Availability of documentation and records.
  • Compliance with applicable regulations and procedures.
  • Cost and expenditure monitored waste minimized.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Certificate in Information Technology or related fields (NQF 5)
  • IT related certifications
  • Diploma in Information Technology or related fields (NQF 6)
  • Microsoft MCSE, CompTIA Certifications like Networking+, Security+
  • CISCO CCNA, VMWARE certifications
  • 10+ years experience in Information Technology.
  • WAN, LAN, Wifi, Virtualized environments, Windows Active Directory, Microsoft 365 platform, end user support, and general IT systems support
  • Firewalls, Linux administration
