Maintenance Fitter

Minimum Requirements
Educational:
  • Matric / Grade 12 (minimum)
  • Qualified Artisan (N5), Trade Test
  • Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical

Experience:
  • Minimum of 8 years experience in a heavy industrial environment
  • Sound knowledge of automated manufacturing equipment
Major Responsibilities and Key Result Areas
Maintenance
  • Conduct daily planned maintenance routines.
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance routines, including:
    • Routine inspections and early diagnosis of possible equipment failures or excessive wear.
    • Communicating with supervisors/production to schedule preventative maintenance.
    • Arranging for parts to be available promptly for preventative maintenance routines.
Fault Diagnosis/Repairs to Equipment
  • Diagnose the root cause of equipment failures.
  • Plan and implement actions to address the cause of failure.
  • Repair failures to a "good as new" condition as quickly as possible.
  • Report on actions taken and record downtime.
  • Verify the correct operation of equipment following repairs and obtain manufacturing process approval for its operating condition.
Service to Production Requirements
  • Be available at all times to assist with production requests.
  • Assist production in resolving process-related problems.
  • Provide operator training as required.
  • Communicate production planning changes to production runs in a timely manner.
  • Identify and communicate potential production problems, offer advice, and report back in writing to the maintenance supervisor.
Maintaining Machine Process Capabilities
  • Perform "first off" inspections on all process changes.
  • Periodically inspect manufactured products against quality requirements.
  • Inspect statistical process charts to evaluate equipment capability and make necessary corrections.
  • Plot engineering-related statistical process charts and monitor equipment performance.
  • Report out-of-control conditions in writing to a superior.
  • Maintain daily housekeeping standards.
