Maintenance Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications
  • Certificate in Technical Discipline or Maintenance-Related Fields (NQF 5)
  • Trade Test (NQF 5)
  • Certificate in First Line Management (FLMP) (NQF 5)
Minimum Experience
  • Up to 5 years of experience in maintenance operations within a manufacturing environment, including:
    • 1-2 years at a supervisory level
    • Up to 3 years working shifts
Technical Competencies
  • Computer literacy (MS Office Suite, SAP, ERP, and other job-specific software systems)
  • In-depth knowledge of maintenance practices, procedures, and processes
  • Strong understanding of compliance with applicable legislation, safety standards, and related manufacturing regulations
Key Performance Areas and Indicators
1. Maintenance Operations and Control

Key Activities:

  • Perform reactive, predictive, and preventative maintenance to limit potential failures and optimize production.
  • Coordinate first-line maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
  • Raise job cards for maintenance, ensuring necessary work permits are included and escalated for approval when required (e.g., hot work, vessel entry, elevated work).
  • Drive and participate in fault analysis on equipment failures (e.g., Root Cause Analysis, 5 WHY, 8D).
  • Approve job cards after successful completion of maintenance work.
  • Ensure equipment and work areas are safe, maintained by operators, and adhere to housekeeping standards.

Key Indicators:

  • Preventative maintenance conducted as scheduled.
  • Plant and equipment downtime minimized.
  • Equipment failures monitored and addressed promptly.
  • Plant shutdowns coordinated with feedback provided.
  • Job cards and work permits properly issued and escalated.
  • Safety and housekeeping standards maintained.
  • Written reports submitted to the manager.
2. Compliance 

Key Activities:

  • Operate within controls and procedures to maintain the integrity of the Company.
  • Identify and report risks or areas of concern to management.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and procedures to prevent fruitless, wasteful, or irregular expenditure.
  • Enforce Health, Safety, and Environmental (SHE) legislation and regulations to minimize risks and incidents.
3. Customer Service 

Key Activities:

  • Maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers to deliver quality services.
  • Represent the Company in stakeholder meetings.
  • Solve problems creatively while demonstrating integrity aligned with Company core values.
4. Staff Supervision 

Key Activities:

  • Ensure all employees sign performance agreements.
  • Monitor and measure performance quarterly through appraisals.
  • Collaborate with HR to identify staff objectives, development areas, and action plans.
  • Facilitate ongoing training and development of employees.
  • Address employee relations matters fairly and promptly.
5. Cost and Financial Control 

Key Activities:

  • Contribute to budget preparation.
  • Promote efficient and transparent use of resources.
  • Monitor and control expenditure, ensuring spending aligns with budgetary limits and guidelines.
  • Report deviations to the manager and explore cost-reduction opportunities.
