Shipping Manager

Key purpose:

To ensure that shipments arrive at their destinations on time and within budget. To coordinate incoming shipments, oversee outgoing shipments, and negotiate transportation costs with carriers.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Negotiating the price of shipment transportation with carriers.
• Ensure and oversee the smooth dispatch of shipment from point A to point B on time and on budget.
• Processing shipment documentation and assessing completed orders.
• Creating and implementing shipping policies and procedures.
• Hiring, training, and supervising shipping employees.
• Acting as a liaison between management, carriers, and shipping customers.
• Collaborating with internal departments to optimize the flow of orders from preparation to shipment.
• Documenting processes and reporting to management as required.
• Evaluating carrier performance and resolving issues with orders and logistics.
• Complying with shipping industry regulations and company policies.

Qualifications and experience:

• Minimum of Grade 12 / Matric
• Degree (BCom) or Diploma in Supply Chain Management / Logistics /Freight
• Approximately 7 years in a freight related environment focusing on Imports & Exports
• 4 years in a supervisory/managerial role
• Advanced analytical, leadership, and problem-solving skills
