Laboratory Supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Chemistry / Chemical Engineering or similar fields (NQF 6)
  • Bachelors Degree in Chemistry / Chemical Engineering or similar fields (NQF 7)

Experience:

Minimum:

  • 3-5 years experience in laboratory operations within a manufacturing environment
  • 1-2 years in a supervisory/management role

Laboratory Operations Testing & Reporting:

  • Incoming product elemental/chemical testing and verification of product COCs as specified in the Laboratory Control Plan
  • On-time testing, processing of data, and verification of records; easy retrieval of records as required
  • Manufacturing in-process product sampling and testing as per defined work methods in the Laboratory Control Plan
  • Management of 3rd party laboratory specialized testing
  • Finished product audits, including battery performance testing/requalification for compliance to specified standards or as agreed by customers
  • Representation/reporting of data in statistical format for ease of review and understanding
  • Accuracy of test methods followed through observational audits
  • On-time reporting of test results
  • Input to Approved Supplier Scorecards
  • Ongoing interaction with 3rd party laboratories to identify improvement opportunities and cost reductions
  • Test results evaluated and distributed to relevant members
  • Compliance to audit schedules
  • Customer feedback and observational feedback

Compliance:

  • Laboratory operating according to the requirements of ISO 17025
  • Identifying and reporting risks or areas of concern to management within own department and area of responsibility
  • Strict adherence to Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental legislation to minimize risks, exposure, incidents, or damage
  • Compliance with ISO 17025 through audits
  • Identified risks reported to the manager
  • Successful audits in Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality

Customer Service:

  • Maintaining effective working relationships with customers (internal and external) to render the highest quality of services
  • Identifying and supporting collective problem-solving while demonstrating integrity in line with Company core values
  • Positive customer feedback
  • Team player, referenced in performance reviews

Staff Supervision:

  • Skills matrix mapped and managed to promote development and versatility of skills
  • Identifying laboratory objectives and conducting performance appraisals
  • Up-to-date skills matrix with traceable competency records
  • Minimum of 2 performance appraisal reviews conducted annually for personnel

Equipment & Budgets:

  • Ensuring laboratory equipment is well maintained and serviced as required
  • Contributing to the budget preparation process
  • Promoting, monitoring, and communicating the effective, efficient, economical, and transparent use of financial and other resources
  • Exploring opportunities to control and reduce costs
  • Timely reporting of faulty equipment
  • Budget input provided on time
  • Monitoring of cost and expenditure minimizing waste
  • Opportunities to control and reduce costs presented and implemented
