Operations Manager

Responsibilities
Production Management
  • Oversee and coordinate all activities in the main plant and cold store.
  • Set, plan, and monitor daily production goals.
  • Ensure production targets, quality standards, and deadlines are met.
  • Supervise and motivate staff; manage absenteeism and performance.
  • Control issuing of raw materials and ensure proper labelling and dispatch.
  • Enforce hygiene, housekeeping, temperature control, and safety protocols.
  • Manage machinery maintenance and minimize downtime.
  • Reduce waste, control costs, and improve productivity.
  • Liaise with management, sales, logistics, and other departments.
  • Participate in product development and continuous improvement.
  • Handle administrative tasks and production reporting.
  • Support recruitment, training, and staff evaluations.
Financial Controls
  • Monitor product costing and control expenses.
  • Review financial documents and enforce financial procedures.
  • Implement profitability improvement measures.
Quality, Food Safety & Health/Safety
  • Enforce food safety, quality, hygiene, and health & safety standards.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
Stock Control
  • Manage stock levels, rotation, and availability of raw materials.
  • Coordinate and verify monthly stocktaking.
  • Order consumables and packaging materials on time.
Meetings & Reporting
  • Lead weekly management meetings.
  • Report to Operations Director regularly.
Qualifications
  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Computer literacy
  • Proficiency in Afrikaans & English
  • Strong mathematical ability
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in a warehouse or production environment
  • Operational agility and ability to work under pressure
