MECHANICAL FITTER

A leading manufacturing organisation is seeking an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join its production and maintenance team within a fast-paced industrial environment.

This role is ideal for a hands-on maintenance professional with strong mechanical fitting experience, preventative maintenance capability, and exposure to heavy production machinery within manufacturing or packaging operations.

THE ROLE

You will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and optimising plant machinery and mechanical equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production operations.

The role requires strong fault-finding ability, preventative maintenance expertise, and the ability to work effectively within a high-volume production environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Mechanical Maintenance & Repairs

  • Maintaining all mechanical machinery and production equipment to ensure operational reliability
  • Performing planned maintenance, breakdown repairs, and mechanical servicing activities
  • Repairing, rebuilding, installing, and decommissioning plant equipment where required
  • Supporting continuous production uptime and operational efficiency

Inspection & Fault Identification

  • Conducting regular inspections of production machinery and equipment
  • Identifying mechanical faults, wear, and potential problem areas proactively
  • Troubleshooting and resolving equipment failures efficiently
  • Escalating major mechanical concerns where required

Plant & Production Support

  • Supporting production teams to minimise downtime and operational disruptions
  • Assisting with machinery optimisation and maintenance improvements
  • Participating in shutdowns, call-outs, standby support, and overtime activities where required
  • Supporting shift-based operational requirements

Safety, SHEQ & Compliance

  • Ensuring adherence to SHEQ standards, policies, and operational procedures
  • Maintaining safe working practices across maintenance activities
  • Supporting compliance with plant safety and operational regulations
  • Promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and operational discipline

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Key Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • N4 Mechanical qualification
  • Trade Certificate (Essential)
  • Minimum 4 years' related mechanical fitting experience
  • Experience within manufacturing or production environments
  • Exposure to:
    • Plant machinery
    • Industrial equipment
    • Preventative maintenance
    • Breakdown maintenance
  • Willingness to work:
    • Shifts
    • Overtime
    • Standby
    • Weekend call-outs where required
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Own transport advantageous

Advantageous Skills

  • Experience within corrugated packaging or similar manufacturing environments
  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting capability
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
