About Us and the Role:
At BlueShift, we aim to remove gigatons of CO2 from the ocean and atmosphere and extract valuable critical minerals from industrial waste. BlueShift unlocks rapid scalability by integrating proprietary membrane-free electrochemical technology from the University of Michigan and University of Massachusetts Amherst with additive manufacturing and existing infrastructure.
As an entry-level chemist or intern, you will run experiments to support the prototyping and scaling up of our carbon removal and mineral extraction processes. You will also practice characterization techniques of the intermediates and products we produce. The candidate is expected to value working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and collaborative environment with a small and agile team. This position will report to the Chief of Science and Operations.
Qualifications
- B.S. or soon to have B.S. in chemistry or chemical engineering
- Experience and comfortability in a wet lab setting and familiar with chemical safety and waste procedures
- Experience preparing solutions, reagents, and running multi-step chemical processes to produce a product
- Organized and ability to follow procedures closely, with careful notetaking
- Practice with characterization techniques such as FTIR, UV-vis, and potentially XRD
- Great to Have: experience with carbon mineralization, electrochemistry (running potentiostats / galvanostats, electroplating), solvent extraction, environmental chemistry, designing experiments
