Job Summary

The job holder is responsible for leading the Built heritage Conservation team. They will have responsibility for the welfare care and preservation of the Built heritage and for working with stakeholders to rehabilitate and protect this heritage. Further they will ensure accurate and accessible documentation of the heritage data and ensure that accepted best practices and guidelines are established and followed in the organization. They will also be responsible for developing the capabilities of the team and for developing outreach programmes

Responsibilities

Managerial

  • Actively participate in the development of the departments strategy and goals, as well as establish and drive the execution of initiatives and plans to meet them.
  • Lead with the development of relevant policies and procedures with due reference to local legislation.
  • Refine and ensure proper documentation and implementation of all policies and procedures for the concerned department.
  • Determine the Financial and Human Resource requirements during the annual budgeting exercise, advocating for optimal resource allocation based on priorities.
  • Monitor the operational performance of the department, compare them to the established objectives and goals, whilst establishing periodic reports and reporting on them to superiors.
  • Manage day-to-day activities and operations.
  • Monitor subordinates performance and provide formal and informal feedback and appraisal in order to maximize efficiency

Operational

  • Manage desk-based assessment and field / measured surveys of the built heritage under custody.
  • Manage scoping reports and constraint studies of the built heritage under custody.
  • Coordinate and programme regular inspections of heritage buildings under custody
  • Develop and manage a register of all built heritage under custody.
  • Assist with enforcement action to protect threatened buildings or conservation areas.
  • Assess and recommend buildings and areas for conservation/rehabilitation under custody which have community, economic and environmental benefits.
  • Represent conservation issues and provide Built heritage Conservation support to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implement relevant policies, procedures and strategies as needed.
  • Follow and raise awareness of relevant professional standards of best practice in built heritage conservation.
  • Advise on appropriate methods of repair, maintenance and alterations of historic fabric including advice on specialist repair techniques and availability of materials and skills and to provide advice and creative input into new design solutions to retain and enhance the unique character and sustainability.
  • Ensure that all work complies with internationally accepted conservation standards and national legislation and policy, including health and safety guidelines.
  • Develop the built heritage conservation team with a strong focus on local capabilities.
  • To disseminate the work of the built heritage team to the community, local and international audiences and to provide education and outreach activities.

Performs other responsibilities and tasks as directed by the Heritage Management Senior Director in order to meet objectives

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in architecture, historic building conservation or equivalent.
  • Masters Degree is desirable

Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the relevant field with 5 years of experience in a managerial role.

Nature of Experience

  • Experience in managing Heritage building conservation functions in reputable organizations.
  • Experience in a similar role in KSA or the region is desirable
