The job holder is responsible for developing and delivering an effective conservation management strategy for built heritage assets aligning with the Foundation's goals and objectives. Additionally, overseeing the archaeological surveying operations, applied research, conservation and rehabilitation, and heritage capacity building. The job holder will also develop and deliver the departments research strategy.
Accountabilities
- Strategy development: develop a strategy for the short and long-term conservation of built heritage assets considering the Foundations vision, the desired visitor experience, the surrounding landscape and archaeological sites, and the development program managed by D&D. Strategy document to be approved by the department Director and Foundation Chief.
- Project oversight: Manage the planning and delivery of the approved conservation strategy in close coordination with Foundation teams, relevant external stakeholders and the development team (D&D), to ensure full alignment on conservation and development programs and reduction in any potential risk to built heritage assets.
- Vision alignment: ensure the conservation strategy is fully in alignment with the Foundation's vision and goals
- Collaborative Project Management: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Foundation teams (e.g., Collections Management, Curatorial, etc..), external consultants and D&D teams to ensure effective and aligned conservation management
- Program management: maintain and regularly update the conservation management program and ensure timely delivery and close-out of conservation projects. Regularly communicate program and any updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Team Management: Recruit, train, and supervise conservation management team members. Foster a collaborative and creative work environment. Ensure team members are regularly attending relevant training programs. Ensure systemic knowledge transfer.
- Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality control processes to ensure that conservation practice and methodologies meet approved standards and project specifications.
- Reporting and Documentation: Maintain comprehensive project documentation and progress reports; provide regular project updates to department director, stakeholders, and senior management.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate at a project level closely with stakeholders, including the Foundation leadership, local authorities, cultural experts, and D&D stakeholders to ensure alignment.
- Evaluation and Reporting: Monitor and evaluate the impact of cultural asset development initiatives. Prepare regular reports and presentations for organizational leadership and stakeholders.
Educational Qualifications
- MA/PhD in Archaeology, Conservation, Heritage Management.
Experience
- + 15 years of experience in the field (out of which 7 in a managerial position).
- Excellent knowledge of Saudi and regional archaeology, conservation and heritage
- Minimum 5 years working in the GCC in a heritage role
