Geotechnical Department Manager – Auburn Hills, MI | Michigan P.E. Required
Location: Auburn Hills, MI | Hybrid (2–3 days in office, remaining remote)
Salary: $120K – $150K + Bonus (up to 15%)

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Department Manager to lead our Auburn Hills team. In this senior leadership role, you will oversee geotechnical engineering projects across industrial, commercial, and residential sectors, manage budgets and staff, and drive project delivery. This is an excellent opportunity for a Michigan P.E.-licensed professional with strong leadership, technical, and business development skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the geotechnical engineering department, including team performance, mentoring, and professional growth.
- Oversee project delivery, including proposals, scheduling, resource planning, and client communications.
- Develop and monitor departmental budgets, track profitability, and ensure financial performance.
- Collaborate with Business Development to drive new project opportunities and maintain client relationships.
- Ensure compliance with Michigan geotechnical codes, regulations, and QA/QC standards.
- Coordinate with architects, civil, and structural engineers to optimize project outcomes.
- Foster a positive, collaborative work culture and promote staff development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- Michigan P.E. license required
- 10+ years of geotechnical/civil engineering experience, with progressive responsibility
- Proven leadership in managing teams, budgets, and multi-disciplinary projects
- Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, foundation design, slope stability, and site development
- Proficiency with geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio, Rocscience) and Microsoft Office
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in business development, proposal writing, and client networking
- Financial management skills: budgeting, profitability analysis, and collections
- Mentoring and professional development of junior staff
