Water Resources Engineer (PE) – Stormwater & Drainage
Location: Herndon, VA | Experience: 4–10 Years | Type: Full-Time
We are seeking a mid-level Water Resources Engineer to join our growing Herndon, VA team. This role is ideal for a motivated engineer with strong experience in stormwater management, drainage design, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling for Virginia transportation and municipal projects. Youll work within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary civil engineering office and have a clear path to technical leadership and project management.
Key Responsibilities
- Design drainage systems, stormwater management, and erosion & sediment control plans
- Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (TR-55, TR-20, Rational Method, HEC-RAS, HY-8, HydroCAD)
- Conduct watershed studies and H&H analyses
- Prepare plans, reports, specifications, and cost estimates
- Coordinate with VDOT, local/state agencies, clients, and contractors
- Mentor junior engineers and support construction phase services
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (ABET-accredited)
- 4–10 years of Water Resources engineering experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia or the ability to obtain within 6 months
- Proven experience in stormwater management, drainage, and erosion & sediment control
- Strong knowledge of Virginia stormwater regulations
- Proficiency with MicroStation OpenRoads Designer, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM, HY-8, HydroCAD
- Experience working with local and state clients
Preferred Qualifications
- Virginia DEQ Stormwater Management Administrator certification
- Familiarity with VDOT and LAP projects
- GIS experience
