Water Resources Engineer (PE) – Stormwater & Drainage

Location: Herndon, VA | Experience: 4–10 Years | Type: Full-Time

We are seeking a mid-level Water Resources Engineer to join our growing Herndon, VA team. This role is ideal for a motivated engineer with strong experience in stormwater management, drainage design, and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling for Virginia transportation and municipal projects. Youll work within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary civil engineering office and have a clear path to technical leadership and project management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design drainage systems, stormwater management, and erosion & sediment control plans
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (TR-55, TR-20, Rational Method, HEC-RAS, HY-8, HydroCAD)
  • Conduct watershed studies and H&H analyses
  • Prepare plans, reports, specifications, and cost estimates
  • Coordinate with VDOT, local/state agencies, clients, and contractors
  • Mentor junior engineers and support construction phase services

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (ABET-accredited)
  • 4–10 years of Water Resources engineering experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia or the ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Proven experience in stormwater management, drainage, and erosion & sediment control
  • Strong knowledge of Virginia stormwater regulations
  • Proficiency with MicroStation OpenRoads Designer, HEC-RAS, PCSWMM, HY-8, HydroCAD
  • Experience working with local and state clients

Preferred Qualifications

  • Virginia DEQ Stormwater Management Administrator certification
  • Familiarity with VDOT and LAP projects
  • GIS experience
