EHS Coordinator (Environmental, Health & Safety) – Wood Manufacturing
Overview
We are seeking an experienced EHS Coordinator to support safety, health, and environmental compliance at a wood manufacturing facility in Brunswick, Georgia. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining EHS programs, leading safety initiatives, supporting regulatory compliance, conducting plant-floor observations, and partnering with operations leadership to drive a strong safety culture.
Wood products manufacturing experience is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain EHS programs, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, environmental permits, and applicable state regulations.
- Manage safety and environmental recordkeeping, reporting, and compliance documentation.
- Lead safety training programs, new hire orientation, and ongoing employee development.
- Conduct safety audits, inspections, hazard assessments, and workplace observations.
- Support Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hazard analysis, confined space, electrical safety, and safe work practices.
- Identify risks and recommend engineering or administrative controls to reduce hazards.
- Investigate incidents, track corrective actions, and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Partner with supervisors and plant leadership to strengthen safety performance and accountability.
- Monitor and improve mill safety systems, processes, and compliance initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Direct experience managing OSHA compliance, safety programs, audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting.
- Proven experience delivering safety training and supporting plant operations on the manufacturing floor.
- Strong knowledge of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hazard recognition, incident investigation, and corrective actions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Required Industry Experience
Candidates must have recent experience in one of the following:
- Wood products manufacturing
- Sawmills
- Lumber operations
- Plywood manufacturing
- OSB (Oriented Strand Board) manufacturing
Applicants from heavy industrial environments such as pulp and paper, large-scale milling, or metal fabrication may be considered only if they can demonstrate direct experience with wood-industry safety hazards, including:
- Wood dust and combustible dust hazards
- Dust collection systems
- Machine guarding for saws and cutting equipment
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Compliance, Industrial Safety, or related field.
- Knowledge of Georgia regulatory reporting requirements, including EPD, DNR, and workers' compensation processes.
- Experience with environmental permitting and compliance reporting.
- Familiarity with NFPA 70E, OSHA recordkeeping, and industrial safety management systems.
Work Environment
This position works in a manufacturing environment and requires frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending, lifting, and working around industrial equipment. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required. Exposure to noise, temperature variations, wood dust, machinery, chemicals, and other manufacturing-related conditions is expected.
