About the job Senior Controls Engineer

As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of complex automation systems including PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA platforms. You will guide a team of engineers to deliver end-to-end control system solutions from conceptual design to commissioning and client support. Your leadership and technical expertise will be key to securing repeat business and building strong client partnerships.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor engineering teams in delivering automation solutions
  • Design control system architectures and select appropriate hardware/software components
  • Develop and program PLC, DCS, RTU controllers and HMI/SCADA visualization systems
  • Implement industrial networking solutions using Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, and more
  • Create detailed electrical schematics and control panel designs compliant with NEC standards
  • Oversee project management tasks including budgeting, scheduling, and profitability tracking for projects up to $1M
  • Troubleshoot and resolve field device/equipment issues
  • Collaborate directly with clients to identify needs and ensure satisfaction

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Control, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science
  • 10+ years of hands-on Controls Engineering experience
  • Proficiency with PLC programming languages (Ladder, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text)
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA development using platforms like ICONICS Genesis64, Wonderware, GE CIMPLICITY, Rockwell FactoryTalk View, Schneider, Siemens
  • In-depth knowledge of PLC hardware/software: Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Modicon
  • Familiarity with DCS platforms such as Emerson DeltaV preferred
  • Skilled in industrial communication protocols: Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus
  • Experience in SQL, .NET, VBA, Power BI, Grafana, and API integrations
  • Proven leadership and mentoring skills with project management experience
  • Background in Semiconductor, Life Sciences, Building Automation, Food & Beverage, Oil & Gas, Mining, or Water/Wastewater industries
  • Ability to design electrical schematics and control panels under 480VAC
  • Local to Albuquerque, NM, or with strong ties to the area
