About the job Senior Controls Engineer
As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of complex automation systems including PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA platforms. You will guide a team of engineers to deliver end-to-end control system solutions from conceptual design to commissioning and client support. Your leadership and technical expertise will be key to securing repeat business and building strong client partnerships.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor engineering teams in delivering automation solutions
- Design control system architectures and select appropriate hardware/software components
- Develop and program PLC, DCS, RTU controllers and HMI/SCADA visualization systems
- Implement industrial networking solutions using Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, and more
- Create detailed electrical schematics and control panel designs compliant with NEC standards
- Oversee project management tasks including budgeting, scheduling, and profitability tracking for projects up to $1M
- Troubleshoot and resolve field device/equipment issues
- Collaborate directly with clients to identify needs and ensure satisfaction
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Control, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science
- 10+ years of hands-on Controls Engineering experience
- Proficiency with PLC programming languages (Ladder, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text)
- Experience with HMI/SCADA development using platforms like ICONICS Genesis64, Wonderware, GE CIMPLICITY, Rockwell FactoryTalk View, Schneider, Siemens
- In-depth knowledge of PLC hardware/software: Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Modicon
- Familiarity with DCS platforms such as Emerson DeltaV preferred
- Skilled in industrial communication protocols: Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus
- Experience in SQL, .NET, VBA, Power BI, Grafana, and API integrations
- Proven leadership and mentoring skills with project management experience
- Background in Semiconductor, Life Sciences, Building Automation, Food & Beverage, Oil & Gas, Mining, or Water/Wastewater industries
- Ability to design electrical schematics and control panels under 480VAC
- Local to Albuquerque, NM, or with strong ties to the area
