Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced HACCP Coordinator to lead and manage the facility's Food Safety, HACCP, and SSOP programs in a ready-to-eat (RTE) food manufacturing environment. This role ensures full regulatory compliance with USDA FSIS requirements, supports production operations, and drives continuous improvement in food safety systems.
The HACCP Coordinator works closely with Operations, Quality Assurance, and FSQS leadership to monitor critical control points (CCPs), oversee audits, lead training programs, and ensure all food safety documentation and corrective actions are executed accurately and on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the facility's HACCP program, including CCP monitoring, verification activities, and documentation control
- Conduct daily review of HACCP, SSOP, and sanitation records to ensure compliance and product release readiness
- Track, investigate, and close critical limit deviations and corrective actions
- Lead and execute internal HACCP audits and support third-party and FSIS regulatory audits
- Ensure compliance with USDA FSIS regulations, directives, and notices
- Develop, deliver, and maintain food safety and HACCP training programs for all levels of plant personnel
- Coordinate HACCP plan reassessments and updates with the Food Safety Team
- Oversee environmental microbiological monitoring programs and related documentation
- Participate in mock recall (stock recovery) exercises and ensure traceability readiness
- Provide monthly food safety performance reports and compliance summaries to leadership
- Spend approximately 25% of time on the production floor verifying food safety system execution
- Support FSQS leadership and provide coverage for supervisory functions as needed
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of Quality Assurance or Food Safety experience in a food manufacturing environment
- Must have experience in ready-to-eat (RTE) food production (non-negotiable)
- Strong working knowledge of HACCP and SSOP systems and their practical implementation
- Experience with FSIS regulatory compliance (USDA inspections, directives, and audits)
- Proven experience conducting or supporting internal, third-party, or regulatory audits
- Ability to interpret and apply USDA FSIS regulations and documentation requirements
- Strong documentation, organization, and analytical skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field
- HACCP Alliance Basic and Advanced HACCP Certification (or ability to obtain)
- Experience implementing environmental monitoring programs
- Experience in mock recall/traceability systems
- Prior experience training production and QA teams in food safety systems
Additional Requirements
- Must be comfortable working in a manufacturing/production environment
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and move throughout plant areas as needed
- PPE may be required in production areas (hearing protection, safety glasses, etc.)
- Schedule may include weekends, variable shifts, and production floor coverage
