About the job Archaeologist
We are seeking a skilled Archaeologist to join our growing cultural resources team in Houston, Texas. This position offers the opportunity to lead and support Phase I-III archaeological projects across Texas and surrounding states. You will conduct fieldwork, analyze artifacts, assist in research, and contribute to high-quality archaeological reporting while working closely with Senior Archaeologists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct archaeological fieldwork, identify artifacts, and assess the presence of archaeological sites
- Collect and analyze data from historic and prehistoric archaeological investigations
- Document research methods, findings, and project results
- Prepare archaeological reports and site forms in accordance with professional standards
- Assist in decision-making regarding project alternatives and mitigation of impacts on archaeological resources
- Organize and prepare artifacts and project records for curation
- Collaborate with field, lab, office, and administrative teams to ensure project quality and compliance
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution
- Meets the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualification Standards for Archaeologists
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience, including at least 1 year of supervisory experience
- Regional experience in historic and/or prehistoric archaeology
- Demonstrated experience in Phase I-III fieldwork
- Ability to provide a writing sample from a thesis, dissertation, or archaeological report
- Valid driver's license
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA)
- Experience with ArcGISPro, Field Maps, Google Earth, or other GIS tools
- Experience obtaining Texas Antiquities Permits
- Significant laboratory and artifact curation experience
