Mine Health & Safety Director – Mining Operations (Gouverneur, NY)

Location: Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County, New York | On-site
Salary: $80,000–$120,000 + Annual Bonus

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Mine Health & Safety Director to lead and manage all aspects of health, safety, and risk management across our underground and surface mining operations. Reporting to the VP of Operations, you will drive safety culture, ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and serve as the primary point of contact for MSHA inspections.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead development and maintenance of a strong safety culture across the mine.
• Conduct hazard evaluations, risk assessments, and incident investigations, including root cause analysis.
• Lead audits of facilities and processes for safety and regulatory compliance.
• Advise management on performance improvement opportunities and corrective actions.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for MSHA inspections and required documentation.
• Manage Health & Safety Coordinators and Trainers.
• Communicate safety policies and updates to employees and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years in health & safety roles within the mining industry.
• Experience leading MSHA compliance and managing inspector visits.
• Skilled in hazard recognition, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
• Strong communication, critical thinking, and data analysis skills.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications

• Underground mining experience.
• Mine rescue experience.
• MSHA Blue Card IU/IS/MM unlimited certification.
