About the job Marine Construction Project Engineer
We are seeking a highly skilled Project Engineer with marine construction expertise to join our Long Beach team. This role focuses on daily field coordination, production tracking, safety compliance, and supporting project execution from start to finish. The ideal candidate will have experience managing marine or heavy civil construction projects, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to quality and safety.
The Project Engineer will work closely with superintendents, foremen, and project managers to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to project specifications. On certain projects, the Project Engineer may also serve as Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) or Quality Control Manager (QC) on USACE projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Field & Production Coordination
- Support daily field operations with superintendents and foremen.
- Plan and execute work activities, coordinating labor, equipment, and materials.
- Communicate with Project Managers and vendors for material deliveries.
- Track production progress and maintain accurate daily logs of work and equipment usage.
Quality & Safety Compliance
- Enforce MSHA, OSHA, USACE, and company safety policies.
- Conduct and lead field safety meetings.
- Monitor compliance with quality standards and document all activities.
- Serve as SSHO or QC Manager on USACE projects when required.
Surveying & Documentation
- Perform progress surveys, compile cross-sections, and bathymetry maps.
- Assist with layout, as-builts, and progress photos.
- Maintain accurate construction documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, contracts, and progress payments.
Scheduling & Planning
- Support project scheduling and planning efforts.
- Identify potential delays and collaborate with the team to implement solutions.
Travel & Work Schedule
- Projects may require travel to out-of-town locations; accommodations provided.
- Some projects may require weekend work.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in marine or heavy civil construction projects.
- Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to obtain TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.
- Strong skills in construction document control (RFIs, submittals, change orders, contracts, and progress payments).
- Ability to enforce MSHA, OSHA, USACE, and company safety policies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience on USACE projects.
- Knowledge of EM 385-1-1 safety requirements.
- EM 385-1-1 training for SSHO or QC Manager roles.
- Surveying experience (hydrographic and/or topographic).
- Experience with Hypack.
- Construction estimating experience, including HeavyBid.
