Higher Education Architecture Director – Maryland | Licensed Architect, Design Leadership

Job Summary:
Clark Nexsen is seeking a visionary Higher Education Architecture Leader to grow our Maryland practice. This role is perfect for a licensed architect with 18+ years of experience in higher education design, proven business development skills, and a passion for leading collaborative, innovative teams. You will manage large-scale projects ($10M–$50M), mentor top talent, and expand our presence across the Mid-Atlantic region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of architects, fostering a collaborative and high-performing studio culture.
  • Drive business growth by cultivating client relationships and securing new projects.
  • Oversee large-scale architectural projects from concept to completion, ensuring design excellence, budget compliance, and regulatory adherence.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate innovative design solutions.
  • Recruit and retain top talent to strengthen office capabilities and portfolio.

Required Qualifications:

  • Licensed Architect (NCARB preferred) with professional licenses in MD and other Mid-Atlantic/Southeast states.
  • 18+ years of experience in higher education, architectural design, and leadership.
  • Proven track record in business development and client relationship growth.
  • LEED AP Accreditation and SCUP Membership required.
  • Experience managing projects valued at $10M–$50M.
  • Proficiency in Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Suite, and graphic modeling is preferred.
  • 7+ years leading architectural teams in senior roles.
