Applications Design Engineer – Mechanical & Civil | Highway Safety Products

Job Overview:
Under the direction of the Engineering Applications Manager, the Applications Design Engineer will design, analyze, and optimize products for hazardous highway sites worldwide. You'll support new and existing products, perform engineering calculations, create technical drawings, and recommend design solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze highway design documents, MASH, NCHRP 350, AASHTO, and ASTM standards.
  • Develop conceptual to final designs; perform stress analysis, dynamic loading, and electromechanical evaluations.
  • Modify products to meet customer requirements and conduct value engineering studies to reduce costs.
  • Investigate and resolve product issues; prepare reports and presentations for internal teams and customers.
  • Check, sign, and stamp drawings (P.E. license preferred/optional).
  • Collaborate across departments, including Sales, Manufacturing, and Customer Service.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (Master's considered with relevant experience).
  • 2+ years of engineering design experience; experience leading projects preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD (Autodesk Inventor), ANSYS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Steel design experience; BOM creation experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • EIT or P.E. license or interest in obtaining one (company support provided).
  • Welding, punching, stamping, or hands-on mechanical experience.
  • Experience tinkering with vehicles or growing up on a farm.

Physical & Work Environment:

  • Work in the office with occasional outdoor testing.
  • Able to sit for long periods and perform mechanical inspections in all weather.
  • Occasional air travel required; valid driver's license needed.
