Compensation: Up to $95,000 base + 8–10% bonus | Relocation assistance available (up to $5,000 + 30 days housing)
Schedule: Onsite role with required rotating weekend coverage
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Food Safety & Quality Systems (FSQS) Superintendent to lead food safety and quality programs in a ready-to-eat (RTE) food manufacturing environment. This role provides hands-on leadership across FSQS operations, ensuring compliance with HACCP, SSOP, USDA/FSIS or FDA regulatory standards, and third-party audit requirements.
The FSQS Superintendent acts as a key site leader, supporting cross-functional teams, driving continuous improvement, and serving in rotation for FSQS leadership functions, including weekends and manager coverage as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily FSQS operations and coordinate communication between FSQS teams and plant leadership
- Ensure full compliance with HACCP, SSOP, and food safety regulatory requirements (USDA/FSIS or FDA)
- Participate in and independently support regulatory and third-party audits
- Oversee product hold, release, disposition, and contamination investigations
- Maintain sample integrity, lab submissions, and quality documentation accuracy
- Manage FSQS staffing, scheduling, cross-training, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions
- Support SOP updates, regulatory documentation, and daily compliance reporting
- Collaborate with Production on food safety incidents and corrective actions
- Ensure proper inventory and maintenance of FSQS supplies and equipment
- Serve in a rotating leadership capacity covering FSQS Manager, Supervisors, HACCP Coordinator, and FSQS Clerk roles
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Meat Science, or a related field
- 5+ years of Quality Assurance / Food Safety experience in food manufacturing
- Direct experience in RTE food production (e.g., deli meats, fully cooked poultry/pork, prepared foods)
- Strong working knowledge and hands-on implementation of HACCP and SSOP systems
- Experience with USDA/FSIS or FDA regulatory standards and audit environments
- Proven supervisory experience (team leadership, scheduling, performance management)
- Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite)
- Ability to interpret regulatory documents and lead compliance actions
- HACCP Alliance Basic and Advanced HACCP certification (or ability to obtain)
Preferred Experience
- Prior leadership in FSQS or QA roles within RTE meat or processed food manufacturing
- Experience managing third-party audits and regulatory inspections
- Background in product disposition, hold programs, and contamination response
- Cross-functional collaboration with production and process improvement initiatives
