Job Title: Field Service Engineer – Semiconductor PVD & Vacuum Equipment (San Jose, CA)

Overview:
Join a leading provider of advanced thin-film processing tools in San Jose, CA! We are seeking a Field Service Engineer to support, maintain, and troubleshoot PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) and semiconductor vacuum equipment for top-tier customers. This customer-facing role includes equipment installations, preventive maintenance, and hands-on problem-solving in cleanroom environments. Travel up to 25% domestically, with occasional international training.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, calibrate, and maintain semiconductor PVD and vacuum equipment in customer facilities.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and robotics issues; implement effective solutions.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on multi-chamber cluster systems and robotics.
  • Collect diagnostic data and communicate findings with headquarters in Japan.
  • Document service activities, maintain software revision history, and recommend spare parts.
  • Provide training and technical support to customers and team members.
  • Ensure compliance with customer protocols and cleanroom standards.

Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or GED required; AA/BS in Engineering or related field preferred.
  • 1-2+ years of field service experience in semiconductor equipment, PVD, or vacuum systems.
  • Hands-on experience with multi-chamber cluster systems, robotics, and cleanroom equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical/mechanical schematics; PLC/software experience a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to work independently after training.
  • Valid driver's license; ability to lift ~50 lbs and travel as required.
  • Bilingual (Japanese/English) helpful but not required.
