Applications Design Engineer (Mechanical / Civil) – 3D CAD | Steel Design | Highway Safety Products
Travel: 10–25%

We are seeking a driven Applications Design Engineer to support the design and development of highway safety and industrial products used at hazardous roadway sites worldwide. This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer who enjoys problem-solving, steel design, 3D CAD modeling, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, analyze, and modify mechanical/civil engineering products from concept through final deliverables (drawings & BOMs)
• Perform engineering calculations (stress analysis, dynamic loading, steel design)
• Develop and revise 3D CAD models and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor
• Conduct simulations using ANSYS
• Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs)
• Troubleshoot product issues and support manufacturing, sales, and customer teams
• Interpret highway design standards (MASH, NCHRP 350, AASHTO, ASTM)
• Prepare reports, presentations, and technical documentation
• Support field inspections and occasional travel (10–25%)

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
• 2+ years of experience in mechanical/civil product design (industrial or highway safety products preferred)
• Strong 3D CAD modeling & assembly structuring experience
• Experience with steel design, welding, punching, and stamping
• Engineering project experience from concept through production
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and customer-facing skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree with internship/project leadership experience
• EIT or P.E. license (or interest in obtaining – company support available)
• Electromechanical systems experience
• Hands-on mechanical aptitude (automotive, farm equipment, fabrication experience a plus)

Work Environment

• Primarily office-based, with some outdoor testing/inspection in various weather conditions
• Collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sales, and Customer Service teams
• Valid driver's license required
