Position Summary
The Community Engagement & Outreach Manager will lead grassroots and institutional recruitment strategies to expand access to Birmingham Corps' workforce development programs. This in-person role focuses on building trusted relationships across Birmingham’s 99 neighborhoods, ensuring that underestimated talent is connected to job readiness resources, coaching, and placement opportunities. The Outreach Manager will also cultivate partnerships with local schools, colleges, training providers, and nonprots to support cohort-based recruitment and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
Community Recruitment & Outreach (50%)
- Develop and implement community-centered recruitment strategies across underrepresented communities. Represent Birmingham Corps at job fairs, neighborhood meetings, and community events.
- Manage relationships with schools, colleges, workforce agencies, and grassroots organizations. Maintain recruitment pipelines, referral networks, and up-to-date outreach calendars.
Partner Engagement & Relationship Building (20%)
- Cultivate long-term partnerships with HBCUs, community colleges, training providers, and nonprot organizations. Coordinate with partners to co-host events, info sessions, and workshops.
- Build a community advisory network to inform outreach strategy and programming.
External Communications & Social Media (15%)
- Maintain the organization’s social media presence by developing a monthly content strategy that highlights programming, partnerships, and community stories.
- Collaborate with Birmingham Corps’ social media contractor, who is responsible for scheduling and publishing content and the monthly newsletter.
- Provide the contractor with quotes, photos, event details, and stories from program participants and partners. Work closely with the Executive Director and program team to ensure alignment between community engagement eorts and external messaging.
Data Tracking, Reporting & Other Duties (15%)
- Track key outreach and communications metrics, including applicant sources, event attendance, and engagement trends.
- Provide regular updates on recruitment and outreach outcomes.
- Support storytelling and reporting eorts for funders and board updates.
- Assist with organization-wide initiatives and cross-functional projects as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support Birmingham Corps’ mission and strategic goals.
Qualications
- 2-4 years of experience in community engagement, outreach, marketing/communications, or related elds.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with comfort across platforms (email, social media, print, etc.).
- Experience developing social media or outreach content strategies for a mission-driven organization is a plus.
- Ability to engage with diverse audiences and build trust in underrepresented communities.
- Knowledge of Birmingham’s neighborhoods and community landscape strongly preferred.
- Prociency in Google Suite; experience with tools like Squarespace, Canva, Mailchimp, or Hubspot a bonus. Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
Compensation & Schedule
- Part-time, 25 hours per week
- Required in-office hours: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 AM 2:00 PM
- Remaining hours flexible based on event or meeting schedules
Salary range: $50,000 - $55,000; eligible for PTO benefits
