Environment Artist
About the job Environment Artist
We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Environment Artist to design and build immersive worlds for games, film, or interactive media. This role focuses on creating high-quality 3D environments, landscapes, and assets that enhance storytelling and user experience.
The ideal candidate has a strong artistic eye, technical proficiency in 3D tools, and the ability to collaborate with designers, developers, and other artists to bring environments to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Create high-quality 3D environments, including terrain, architecture, props, and set dressing
- Develop assets from concept art to final in-engine implementation
- Optimize environments for performance while maintaining visual fidelity
- Work with level designers to ensure environments support gameplay and narrative
- Apply lighting, textures, and materials to achieve desired visual style
- Use industry-standard tools such as Unreal Engine, Unity, Blender, Maya, or 3ds Max
- Maintain consistency with art direction and project requirements
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical and visual issues
- Participate in reviews and iterate based on feedback
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Game Art, 3D Design, Animation, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2–5+ years of experience in environment art for games, film, or real-time applications
- Strong portfolio showcasing environment design and 3D assets
- Proficiency in tools like Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Substance Painter/Designer, and game engines (Unreal/Unity)
- Understanding of lighting, composition, color theory, and spatial design
- Knowledge of optimization techniques for real-time rendering
- Familiarity with PBR workflows and asset pipelines
