Job Purpose:
The Access Control Technician I is responsible for accurately performing installation tasks and assisting with system setup, testing, and commissioning security solutions. This entry-level role supports technicians and project managers by executing work in alignment with project requirements, engineered drawings, and company standards. The Access Control I demonstrates professionalism, safety awareness, and growing technical competency while working toward mastery of security system installation and troubleshooting. The salary range for this position is between $24.00/hour - $30.00/hour, based on relevant education, experience, and other job related factors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform installation tasks independently as noted in job summary and as directed by the Lead Technician or Project Manager.
- Interpret engineered drawings to ensure accurate installation and cabling.
- Assist the Lead Technician with management and security of all jobsite tools, equipment, and materials.
- Support headend fabrication and wiring under guidance.
- Assist with wiring, labeling, grounding, meter/device testing, and system structure.
- Follow scope of work, schedule, and jobsite material management requirements.
- Identify, procure, and manage parts and part numbers from the warehouse.
- Demonstrate basic knowledge of cable types, signal flow, and device installation.
- Program and/or identify field device IP and MAC addresses.
- Utilize testing and commissioning documents for quality assurance.
- Apply basic troubleshooting techniques to identify and resolve installation issues.
- Safely and efficiently use hand tools, power tools, and test equipment.
- Demonstrate advanced multimeter usage and relay logic as training progresses.
- Assist in setup and operation of testing devices during commissioning.
- Ability to read and interpret construction and engineered drawings.
- Basic troubleshooting, networking, and system understanding.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage priorities.
- Maintain safe and organized worksites, securing all equipment properly
- Participate in jobsite safety meetings and toolbox talks
- Consistently maintain punctuality and reliability
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and project leadership
- Accurately complete timesheets and required reporting
- Demonstrate professionalism in daily interactions with colleagues and clients
- Apply basic computer knowledge to company applications including Email, Vista, Raken, and Labor Chart
- Accurately manage and submit documentation related to work performed
- Overnight travel as required

Required Skills & Abilities:
- Minimum 12–24 months of installation experience or equivalent knowledge.
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- ICRA Certification (Beacon Classroom).
- Bosch Online Training Modules (self-paced).
- Classroom and On-the-Job Training for Lenel, Hirsch, and Open Options.
- Basic Networking and Relay Logic (ADA Operator).
- Advanced Multimeter Usage and Functionality.
- Continued development in system installation and commissioning.
- Ability to use testing tools, devices, and equipment.
- Ability to effectively communicate with employees, management, and customers
Education, License and Experience:
- High School Diploma or approved equivalent.
- Holds OSHA 10 or higher certification.
- Thorough knowledge of guidelines covering NEC and TIA/EIA standards.
- Ongoing involvement in Beacon's training programs.
- Maintain a valid driver's license.
Physical Requirements:
- Requires sitting, prolonged standing, walking, handling, gripping, pushing, pulling, and reaching overhead with force.
- Requires stooping, crouching, crawling, and working on or under floors.
- Ability to transport ladders up to 12 feet in height and lift ladders off vehicle roof racks.
- Willing and able to climb and stand on ladders and scaffolding.
- Frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, including overhead.
- Maintain a clear background check to satisfy customer jobsite badging requirements.
- Submit to vaccinations and screening tests required by customer jobsite protocols.
- Maintain compliance with company drug and alcohol screening policies.
Travel Requirements:
- 20-50% travel in Rocky Mountain region, as needed.
