Job Summary

The Lab Analyst is responsible for conducting analytical and physical testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products within the perfume and cosmetic industry. This role ensures compliance with internal specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. The analyst will use a variety of laboratory instruments and techniquesincluding chromatographic methodsto support product development, quality assurance, and problem resolution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sample Preparation & Analysis:
    • Prepare and analyze samples of fragrances, essential oils, cosmetic formulations, and packaging materials.
    • Conduct routine and non-routine chemical, physical, and sensory tests using chromatographic techniques (GC-MS, HPLC), as well as FTIR, UV-Vis, Karl Fischer, pH meters, viscosity meters, etc.
    • Operate, calibrate, and troubleshoot chromatographs (gas and liquid).
    • Carry out microbiological testing as required.
  • Data Recording & Reporting:
    • Accurately record test results, chromatograms, observations, and deviations in laboratory notebooks or LIMS.
    • Prepare detailed analytical reports for internal and external stakeholders.
    • Interpret chromatographic data; communicate findings to R&D, production, and quality teams.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure all work complies with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), ISO standards, and company SOPs.
    • Participate in method validation and calibration of chromatographic instruments.
    • Assist with the investigation of non-conforming products and implement corrective actions.
  • Product Development Support:
    • Collaborate with fragrance evaluators, formulators, and product developers on new projects.
    • Support stability studies by preparing samples and performing periodic analysis.
    • Contribute to sensory panels for fragrance/cosmetic evaluation.
  • Safety & Housekeeping:
    • Maintain a clean, organized laboratory workspace.
    • Follow all health, safety, and environmental guidelines.
    • Ensure proper disposal of chemicals and materials.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Cosmetic Science, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in a laboratory setting within the perfume or cosmetic industry.

Technical Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with chromatographic instruments (GC-MS, HPLC), including operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and interpretation of chromatograms.
  • Knowledge of raw material specifications for fragrances or cosmetics.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements (IFRA, REACH, FDA, EU Cosmetics Regulation).

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload.

Physical & Environmental Conditions

  • Ability to work with chemicals and fragrances (may require use of PPE).
  • Standing for extended periods; lifting up to 20 lbs as needed.
