About the job Technical Product Owner

Technical Product Owner

A US-based fast-growing, AI-driven SaaS platform revolutionizing how home service businesses find and hire talent. They leverage cutting-edge Generative AI and behavioral science to streamline the hiring process, matching employers with top candidates quickly and efficiently. Their team is passionate about using Large Language Models (LLMs) and intelligent automation to solve real-world recruiting challenges.

Currently, the team is seeking a Product Owner (Technical) to drive their AI-focused product initiatives. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Head of Product to decompose the product roadmap into actionable backlog and user stories. You will contribute to delivery across two agile development pods, ensuring AI-driven features (including LLM integrations and agentic workflows) are executed smoothly from concept to release.

This position involves tight coordination with UI/UX, engineering, and business teams to make data-informed decisions that align with company objectives. This is a remote role open to candidates based in Europe or Latin America, offering a mid-to senior-level opportunity to shape an innovative AI product in a dynamic startup environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Roadmap to Backlog: Work with the Head of Product to translate the high-level product roadmap into a well-defined backlog of epics and user stories. Break down complex features into clear requirements and acceptance criteria for two development pods.
  • Backlog Management: Own and prioritize the product backlog for your teams, ensuring that the most valuable features (e.g., generative AI enhancements or agent workflows) are always ready for development. Conduct regular grooming/refinement sessions to keep backlog items up-to-date and aligned with the product strategy.
  • Feature Execution: Ensure smooth development and release of features and agentic workflows. Collaborate with engineers to integrate LLM capabilities and autonomous agent processes into the product, monitoring that these features perform reliably and meet user needs. Proactively address technical or data-related challenges that arise during implementation.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Serve as the bridge between engineering, design, and business teams. Work daily with UI/UX designers to iterate on feature design and ensure a seamless user experience. Partner with marketing, sales, and customer success to gather feedback and align product improvements with customer needs and business goals.
  • Data-Informed Decision Making: Leverage product analytics and user feedback to drive decisions. Collect key product metrics (e.g. feature usage, conversion rates) and monitor them after releases. Conduct A/B tests or analyze experiment results to validate the impact of new AI features, using insights to refine the product roadmap.
  • Manage Feature Flags: Define, and maintain feature flags using LaunchDarkly to enable controlled rollouts. Ensure proper flag lifecycle management, including creation, monitoring, and retirement, while collaborating with engineering teams to optimize feature deployment strategies.
  • Rapid Prototyping: Build and test proof-of-concept solutions using no-code or low-code tools (such as Lovable.dev or Replit) to quickly validate ideas before investing in full development. Use these POCs to de-risk innovative features and communicate vision to stakeholders and developers.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Communicate product progress and upcoming releases to stakeholders across the company. Provide transparency on development status, and clearly articulate any changes in priorities or timelines. Ensure all teams (engineering, design, business) remain aligned on what is being built and why, especially for complex AI-driven initiatives.
  • Quality & Performance: Work with QA to validate test plans and validation criteria for features.

Requirements:

  • Product Management Experience: 5+ years of experience in product management or product ownership in the tech industry, with at least 2+ years focused on AI/ML-driven products. Proven track record of delivering features end-to-end in a startup or agile environment (experience at an AI-heavy startup is a strong plus).
  • AI/LLM Knowledge: Understanding of Generative AI and LLM-based workflows you are familiar with how large language models operate and how they can be applied in product features. You are keen to learn and understand the AI product development lifecycle, including model development phases, data requirements, and iterative improvement cycles for AI features.
  • Technical Aptitude: Comfortable working on highly technical products. Ability to discuss implementation details with engineers, especially regarding integrating AI services or APIs. Experience with tools and frameworks in the AI/ML space (e.g. understanding of model APIs, agent frameworks, or AI cloud services) is desired.
  • Backlog & Agile Skills: Hands-on experience with agile methodologies (Scrum/Kanban) and tools (Jira or similar) to manage product backlogs. Skilled at writing clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and maintaining a prioritized backlog. Capable of balancing technical constraints with user requirements when making scope decisions.
  • UI/UX Collaboration: Experience partnering with designers to craft intuitive user experiences. Awareness of user-centered design principles and ability to incorporate UX research or usability testing findings into product decisions.
  • Data-Driven Mindset: Proficiency with product analytics and metrics. Able to define KPIs and use data (from tools like Google Analytics, Mixpanel, etc.) to evaluate feature success. Comfortable designing and analyzing A/B tests or experiments to guide iterative improvements.
  • Prototyping Ability: Demonstrated ability to create quick prototypes or mock-ups of product ideas. Experience with no-code/low-code tools or scripting for rapid prototyping (e.g. building a simple app or automation in Lovable, Replit, or similar platforms) is a plus. This role requires creativity in validating concepts before full build.
  • Excellent Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in English. Proven ability to convey complex ideas (especially about AI features) in simple terms to diverse audiences from engineers to non-technical stakeholders. Strong skills in documentation and visual communication to share product requirements and updates.
  • Leadership & Organization: Self-motivated and proactive leadership style. Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and driving projects forward without direct authority. Strong organization and time-management skills to handle overseeing multiple teams/pods and projects simultaneously.
  • Remote Collaboration: Prior experience working with distributed teams across different time zones. Ability to effectively use remote collaboration tools and adapt to a remote-first culture. Must be able to overlap several working hours with Central European or Latin American time zones to collaborate in real-time with the team.

Nice to Have:

  • Domain Experience: Background in HR tech, recruiting platforms, or workflow automation products. Understanding of hiring processes or HR software can help inform feature decisions at HireBus.
  • AI/ML Technical Depth: Experience in an AI engineering or data science role earlier in your career, or a technical degree (Computer Science, etc.). While this is not an engineering role, deeper knowledge of machine learning, NLP, or LLM fine-tuning/deployment pipelines can be beneficial for communicating with the technical team and anticipating challenges.
  • Certification: Scrum Product Owner certification (CSPO, PSPO) or similar agile certifications, indicating formal training in agile product management.

What makes this role Exciting:

  • Impact & Growth: Opportunity to shape a cutting-edge AI product that is transforming how small businesses hire. You will have significant ownership and the chance to implement the latest in AI/LLM technology to solve meaningful problems.
  • Collaborative Team: Join a passionate, multidisciplinary team (AI engineers, designers, industry experts) that values innovation, continuous learning, and knowledge sharing. We maintain an inclusive and supportive culture, even while distributed across continents.
  • Remote-Friendly: Work from wherever you are most productive. We offer flexibility in work hours and location, with a preference for candidates in Europe or Latin America to facilitate collaboration.
  • Competitive Compensation: They provide a competitive salary for mid-senior roles in international markets, along with potential equity/stock options. Youll also receive benefits such as paid time off, holidays.
