Position Overview:
The Constructability Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient, safe, and cost-effective execution of construction projects by incorporating construction knowledge into the planning and design phases. The engineer reviews project designs, methods, and schedules to ensure that they align with construction best practices, identifying potential issues and optimizing construction sequences. Working closely with design, engineering, and construction teams, the Constructability Engineer helps to streamline project delivery and minimize risks, delays, and rework during construction.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct constructability reviews during the design and planning phases to identify potential construction challenges, conflicts, and opportunities for improvement.
Work with design and engineering teams to ensure that construction methodologies are integrated into project designs, minimizing risks during construction.
Develop construction installation sequences that maximize safety, efficiency, and cost savings while adhering to project timelines and quality standards.
Collaborate with construction teams to optimize work sequencing, material logistics, and construction techniques.
Provide technical input on the use of materials, construction methods, and equipment to ensure compatibility with the design intent and project goals.
Review project schedules and provide feedback on the feasibility and optimization of construction activities, identifying opportunities to streamline workflows.
Support risk identification and mitigation efforts related to construction practices and site conditions by limiting manhours to be spent on site and maximize the prefabrication of construction items.
Assist in developing and implementing construction execution plans that incorporate constructability principles, improving the overall buildability of the project.
Conduct field assessments and collaborate with site teams to troubleshoot any constructability issues that arise during construction.
Ensure that designs comply with all applicable building codes, safety standards, and construction regulations.
Prepare constructability reports and present findings and recommendations to project stakeholders, including designers, contractors, and project managers.
Participate in lessons-learned sessions to capture best practices and improve future project constructability.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
5+ years of experience in construction engineering, constructability reviews, or related roles within the construction industry.
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and industry best practices.
Experience working with design, engineering, and construction teams to ensure that construction challenges are addressed early in the project lifecycle.
Familiarity with project management and construction software tools.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to foresee and mitigate potential construction issues.
Knowledge of relevant safety standards, codes, and regulations.
